Friday Reminders!

Just a friendly reminder that Friday is an early dismissal (noon, 11:45 for parent pick-up) due to conferences in the afternoon.

Also, Friday will be our annual Walk for Hope. Students are asked to wear their grade-level t-shirts and sneakers! It might be chilly in the AM, so a sweatshirt or jacket is recommended.

Friday night at 6:30, come out to the school for our annual Talent Show! We have a wide variety of acts, including a teacher-act and a special musical guest! We hope to see you there!

Department of Health to Offer Vaccination Clinics as School Immunization Deadline Approaches
New Regulations Require Up-to-Date Vaccinations for All Students

Harrisburg – The Pennsylvania Department of Health is reminding parents and caregivers of the upcoming deadline to ensure school-aged children have had all required immunizations.

“When the current school year began, families were given an eight-month provisional period to get their students up-to-date with their vaccinations,” said Dr. Eli Avila, Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Health. “This period is coming to an end, so we are reminding families to make sure school-aged children are immunized.”

New immunization regulations that took effect last August require children in all grades to receive a second dose of mumps vaccine as well as a second dose of the chicken pox vaccine.

They also require students in seventh grade to have one dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV4) and one dose of the tetanus, diphtheria and acellular pertussis vaccine (Tdap). All vaccines also need to be appropriately spaced to be considered valid.

To help parents and caregivers meet the deadline, the department will be providing free immunization clinics during the week of April 9. Students will need to be registered by March 30. To register for an appointment in your area, visit www.padohclinicappt.com.

Individuals can also call 877-PA HEALTH (877-724-3258) for additional information. The most recent copy of the student’s vaccination history must be provided at the time of the appointment. Students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

While the department established the new regulations, enforcement is up to individual school districts. The regulations were developed upon recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. To review the regulations, visit www.health.state.pa.us/immunizations.

Moore PSSA Song

The above video is the "Moore PSSA Song", sung by Mrs. Cramer's 5th Grade class.  The video includes the words to the song, and is set to the tune of "Dynamite" by Taio Cruz.  The video was presented at the PSSA Pep Rally, which took place on Monday, March 12th.  The students in Grades 3-6 surely enjoyed themselves as they sang along to the song as a whole group!

The students at Moore have worked very hard this year, and are going a great job with the PSSA tests!  We're all very proud of them, and appreciate their efforts!

PSSA Preparations!

Just a reminder to parents that tomorrow begins the PSSA testing for students in Grades 3, 4, 5 and 6.  The testing will begin with Math on Tuesday, followed by Reading on Wednesday.  The tests will then continue to alternate throughout the rest of the week, ending with Reading on Tuesday, March 20th.

After the Spring Break, testing will resume for only students in Grades 4 and 5...with Writing for Grade 5 (April 16-20) and Science for Grade 4 (April 23-27).

Here are some helpful things to keep in mind as your child prepares for their testing session:

1. Students should get a good night's sleep (at least 7-8 hours),
2. Students should eat a healthy breakfast before school (avoid sugary cereals),
3. Students should set a "goal" for themselves, and...
4. Encourage them to do their best, and not place too much pressure on them to "be proficient".

We wish our students the best of luck, and we know that they will "work their magic" and do an awesome job on the PSSA's!

MASCOT WINNER

The votes are in...and the Moore Elementary School Mountain Lion mascot finally has a name!  The students at Moore selected...WHISKERS...as the name of the mascot!  The winning entry was submitted by Taylor L. in Mrs. Schucker's Kindergarten class.

There were more than 290 entries into the contest, and a top-ten was selected by members of the School-Wide Positive Behavior Support (Moore PRIDE) team.  The students voted in their homerooms last week, and "Whiskers" was selected by the majority of the students!

Congratulations to Taylor, and our mascot "Whiskers".  As the winner, Taylor will receive a special prize from Whiskers!
