New Classroom Foods Guidelines

As many of you have already received, the Northampton Area School
District recently made changes to the allowable foods that are
typically delivered to classrooms for parties and snacks. The District
provided a thorough list of items that are permissible to be delivered
to the school by parents/relatives, or sent with the students. We
hope that it is understood that the purpose behind these changes are
due to an increase in students with severe food allergies attending
our schools, alignment with recent changes in the healthy foods
initiatives...and is not meant to be "restrictive" towards individual
children.

Please note two important factors regarding these recent changes.

1. This procedure applies to classroom snacks and parties, and NOT to
packed student lunches.
2. This procedure takes effect immediately, however if you need to
discuss specific issues...please contact the Mr. Dimmick

We thank you for your understanding and cooperation, and we hope that
these changes can be completed seamlessly. Remember, this change is
not meant to restrict children...it is to ensure the survival of
children!

PSSA Results

The 2011-2012 PSSA results are in, and Moore Elementary School was awarded Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) for the fifth consecutive year!  We are very excited that our students, overall, reached the benchmarks in Math and Reading.  We didn't quite reach the 81% level for Reading...but through State calculations of Growth, we were awarded the benchmark!

As a result of our students reaching AYP, the students in Grades 4-6 will be given a special reward.  Each student in those grade-levels will be able to toss a water-filled balloon at their Principal, Mr. Dimmick!  Although he is not thrilled to be soaked to the bone...he did say it was better than an ear full of whipped cream!  Mr. Dimmick is also very proud of our Moore students for how hard they worked last school year to achieve their personal goals, as well as the overall school goal of making AYP!

The "Principal-Soaking" will take place in September, although a date has not been chosen just yet.

Moore Recognizes Patriots Day

Moore Elementary School recognized Patriots Day on Tuesday, September 11th.  Students and Staff were invited to wear Red-White-Blue and observed an extended moment of silence in recognition of the lives lost in the 9/11 events in 2001.  The school also had a flag-raising ceremony at the beginning of school, where members of Boy Scout Troop 35 and Cub Scout Pack 35 helped raise and salute the flag.  Mrs. Hageman and Alex C. played "Taps" once the flag was fully-raised.

A short video was recorded by the Morning Call, and posted on their website Tuesday afternoon.  Below is a link to that video...enjoy!

Meet the Teacher Nights

Moore Elementary School will be holding its annual "Meet the Teachers" Night next week.  There are two (2) nights, assigned as follows:

    * Tuesday, Sept. 11th...we will be holding the Grades 1 through 3
    * Wednesday, Sept. 12th...we will be holding Grades 4 through 6

The night will begin with a presentation for parents in the Gymnasium.  This will begin at 6:00pm, and will feature an overview of the 2012-2013 school year (new programs, last year's PSSA results, changes to the procedures/policies for our school).  This session will end around 6:45pm, at which time parents can move to their students' classrooms.  Please note that no teachers will be available in their classrooms from 6:00-6:45pm.

The night will be split into two (2) sessions, with a "switch" occurring at 7:35pm.  The first session runs from 7:00-7:35, the second from 7:40-8:15.  The night will end by 8:30pm.

During both evenings, there will be information tables set-up outside of the gymnasium and in other parts of the building for programs that Moore Elementary School supports.  We will also be selling "Moore Elementary School Mountain Lions" car magnets (photo below) for $3.00...with proceeds benefiting the Student Activities at Moore.

We are very excited to see the parents and introduce you to our new school year!
