Registration Requirements
Admission to kindergarten: Child must be five years old before September 1, 2012
Admission to first grade: Child must be six years old before September 1, 2012 (Children currently enrolled in kindergarten in our school district need not register for first grade.)
The child’s state birth certificate (or proof of birthdate) and immunization records are required at time of registration. Parents/guardians must also provide proof of residency in Northampton Area School District (a signed lease, an agreement of sale, a moving permit, or a driver’s license, etc.) verifying parent’s/guardian’s name and address. Also, please bring any custody papers pertaining to your child.
The following immunization records MUST be presented at the time of registration:
Diphtheria and Tetanus - 4 doses (one dose administered on or after the fourth birthday)
Polio - 3 doses
Measles - 2 doses (the first dose must have been administered on or after the first birthday)
Mumps - 2 doses
Rubella (German Measles) - 1 dose
(2- MMR's doses are acceptable for the above - Measles, Mumps, and Rubella in combination)
Hepatitis B – 3 properly-spaced doses
Varicella (chicken pox) immunity – 2 doses of the vaccine or history of the disease
If a child does not meet the basic requirements by the time school opens in September, he/she will not be permitted to attend school until certified proof of immunization as required by STATE LAW has been attained.
Physical and dental examinations are required for entrance into kindergarten and may be completed up to one year prior to entrance into kindergarten. The forms for physical and dental examinations will be provided at kindergarten registration.
Children are permitted to register for kindergarten if their date of birth is on or before August 31, 2007.
Parents should be aware that sometimes a child may benefit by delaying registration for a year if the child shows signs of immaturity or if there are health reasons that could affect his or her success in school. The school principal will be happy to discuss such concerns with any parent.
