Delayed Lunches 1-27-2012

Parents and Guardians of Moore Elementary Students,

This letter is to inform you that Moore Elementary School had to delay the serving of lunch to students and staff today, due to a water back-up in the drainage system within the kitchen area.  The back-up caused some minor flooding to the kitchen and serving area. In order to eliminate the possibility of contamination of food and to obtain a healthy environment for the students to eat, a decision was made by Aramark and the Administration to delay the serving of lunches.

Once the issue was resolved, all students were provided an opportunity to eat lunch.  Lunches were delayed approximately 1-hour, but all students were given their normal amount of time within the cafeteria to eat.  Students with documented medical concerns were identified early in the process and were provided an opportunity to eat at their normally scheduled time.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school at your convenience.

Thank you,

Mr. Dimmick

Principal

The Lehigh Valley Zoo Visits Moore 1st Grade!

The Lehigh Valley Zoo visited Moore Elementary School the morning of January 24th.  In this photo, two of the zookeepers show the students in Grade 1 a large snake!  The students really enjoyed the presentation...especially the penguin!  We would like to thank the Lehigh Valley Zoo and the Moore PTA for presenting the program to our students.  We really learned a lot and had a lot of fun!

February is Dental Health Month!

Get Ready to "Rock Your Smile!"

Join Mrs. Arcury, NASD School Dental Hygienist, and the Pennsylvania Dental Association (PDA) in celebrating National Children's Dental Health Month (NCDHM) this February!  NCDHM is an oral health campaign aimed at educating Pennsylvania youths about the importance of good oral health. Developing good habits at an early age and scheduling regular dental visits helps children get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.   This year's theme is "Rock Your Smile" and Mrs. Arcury encourages children to:

                                                1. Brush and Floss twice a day.

                                                2. Eat healthy foods.

                                                3.  Limit sweet, sticky snacks.

                                                4.  Visit your dentist or dental hygienist twice a year.

There will be a lot of sparkling smiles in 2nd Grade this year due the generous donation of toothbrushes and floss from Dr. Cynthia Hanner-Olenwine.  Our school dental hygienist, Mrs. Arcury, will distribute the "tools for a cool smile" when she conducts the Mass Brush-In with 2nd grade later this year.

Spelling Bee Champ Crowned

Rachel Hartzell took a deep breath, strongly repeated the word into the microphone, and then correctly spelled "F-A-S-H-I-O-N" in a confident manner, and walked away the winner of the Moore Spelling Bee on Monday! Rachel, a fifth-grader in Mrs. Marano's class, beat-out 17 classmates and bested fellow finalist and sixth-grade champion Jordan Druckenmiller, in a marathon Bee that will go down as one of the most competitive Bees in the school's history!

Rachel will move on the the next round, a written round hosted by the Express Times, that will qualify students from around the area for the Regionals held later this Spring.

We wish Rachel the best of luck, and congratulate all of the classroom winners and representatives that competed in the school-wide Bee yesterday. You all did a great job!
