A Special Thank You...

Moore Elementary School would like to take a moment to thank all of the parents, volunteers, teachers, students and of course our special guests - the Veterans, who attended/participated and planned our Veterans Day celebration on Monday.  We want to recognize the hard work and dedication that our committee members exhibited throughout the planning process, and the support of our PTA and parents.  The event was amazing, and continues to be a vital part of the education of our students.  Hearing first-hand the history of our United States Armed Forces, and the sacrifices that our troops have made over the decades, is truly something they won't learn from just reading a book.  We cannot express enough our gratitude to all that served and continue to serve, and we appreciate all of our guests taking the time to visit with our students.

I would like to personally recognize Mr. Brian Muschlitz and Mrs. Rachel Karc for their efforts in organizing the event.  Their countless hours of hard work made the day possible and one that many of our Veterans will remember for the rest of their lives!  Our committee members - Mrs. Dremock, Mrs. Meade, Mrs. Longacre, Mrs. Schucker, Mrs. Dalrymple, Mrs. Maxwell, Mrs. Hageman, Ms. Haley, Mrs. Herr, Mrs. Schaffer, Mr. Gradwohl, Mr. Cummings Mr. Duell, Mr. Harrison and Mr./Mrs. Decker - all deserve recognition for their work, as well!

Thank you again, and Moore looks forward to continuing with our annual event in future years!

Lunch Account Balances

As the school year comes to a close, please be sure to settle any negative balances that your student(s) may have before the end of the year.  Lunches will not be served during the half-days, June 4-10.  You can either settle the negative balances online (through your MySchoolBucks.com account) or by sending money to school.  As of May 17th, we have 77 students with negative balances, totaling over $380 outstanding.  Throughout the year Negative Balance slips have been given to your student(s) when their accounts dropped below $0.00, and a letter will be sent home on or about June 4 to those students who still have a negative balance.  Please note that it is your responsibility to settle any debts.  At no time were students denied a lunch if their balance was in the negative, however their lunch "choices" (items) were limited.

We thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Moore Walk-A-Thon

Over the last four (4) years, Moore Elementary School has held a Walk-A-Thon for the Lauren's Hope Foundation.  The walk, coinciding with a sponsorship program, raises awareness of brain injuries suffered by children, and helps financially support programs and equipment for local children who suffered a traumatic brain injury and their families.

Lauren's Hope Foundation is a locally-developed foundation, and has direct ties to Moore Elementary School through Lauren's family (her brother and sister attend Moore Elementary).  We are very honored to be an active member in helping support Lauren's Hope, and look to continue this partnership in years to come.  Through our previous Walks, we've been able to help support a "cooling cap" system at the Lehigh Valley Hospital's Pediatric Care Unit.

The students and staff at Moore Elementary School participated in their Walk-A-Thon on Thursday, April 25th...and we are very excited to announce that the school raised $3,050.50 in sponsorships and donations this year!  We want to thank everyone who participated in the event.  Congratulations to our students and staff, as well as the families who supported everyone!

On Friday, April 19th, Moore Elementary School will once again be hosting an Alex's Lemonade Stand as part of the Great Lemonade War.  Students may bring in money and buy lemonade for 25 cents a cup during lunch.  The students are also asked to wear yellow on this day to show support for kids with cancer.  We will also be having an Alex's Lemonade Stand Ambassador coming to speak to our students on Thursday, April 18th.  If you would like to make a donation to Alex's Lemonade Stand, please visit our school donation page at: http://www.alexslemonade.org/mypage/89979.  Thank you very much for supporting our school and this wonderful organization.

March of Dimes

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the March of Dimes.  From March 11th-March 15th, Moore Elementary will be collecting dimes to help support the March of Dimes and the work that they do to make sure all babies are born healthy.  The classroom that raises the most money for the March of Dimes will receive a special classroom celebration.  We are also encouraging students to wear purple on Friday, March 15th to show their support for healthy babies.  Thank you for your support of this worthwhile cause.

The Zoo Comes to Moore

On Friday, January 25th, the PTA sponsored an in-school program for the students in Grade 1.  The Lehigh Valley Zoo brought their travelling show to the school, that included some cute and cuddly (and not so cuddly) friends!  The presentation was a hit with the students, and they learned a great deal of valuable information about the unique animals and ways to help keep animals safe.  The Lehigh Valley Zoo has been a frequent visitor to our school over the years, and we are very grateful for their willingness to share their expertise and time with us.
We thank the PTA for their continued support of our students and the education they receive, and we appreciate their time and effort in securing the presentations (a special thank you to Mrs. Karc for all your hard work with our in-school programs)!

Here are a few photos of our visitors from the Zoo during their visit...enjoy!

Moore Science Fair

On Wednesday night, Moore Elementary held their 6th Grade Science Fair.  The evening featured an opportunity for the students to present their Science research projects that they worked on throughout the 2nd Semester to their peers, parents, and community members.  It was a wonderful evening, and we had an amazing turn-out!  We were very pleased with the projects, and with the performance of the students - both in their projects and their presentations!

We had several judges who utilized a rubric-system to award the top-3 winners.  We would like to thank them for their time and expertise.  The judges were: Mr. Gogel - NASD Board President, Mrs. Miller - NASD Board Member, Mrs. Hanner - NASD Dir. of Curriculum, Ms. Monteith - NASD Reading Supervisor, Mr. Wilde - NASD High School Physics Teacher, and Ms. Golas - Moore Kindergarten Teacher and Science Teacher.

The top-3 place-winners, based on the judges scores, were:
1st Place - Tyler B.
2nd Place - Colby H.
3rd Place - Jaelee Y.

Congratulations to our winners, and to all of the students who participated in this wonderful event.

A special thank you to Mrs. Cramer - Moore 6th Grade Science Teacher, and Mrs. Shaner - Moore Reading IST and 6th Grade Gifted Teacher for their efforts in developing the Science Fair.  We'd also like to thank the Moore PTA and the 6th Grade Events Committee for providing refreshments throughout the event.

Great job, everyone!

Moore Science Fair

Moore Elementary School will be holding it's first "Science Fair" on Wednesday, January 16th.  The Fair will be held in the Gymnasium, beginning at 6pm.  Students in our 6th grade created Science projects throughout the first semester, and will be available to discuss their projects with anyone who wishes to stop by.  Refreshments (pizza, hot dogs, mac & cheese) will be available through the 6th Grade Events Committee of our PTA...with proceeds going towards the 6th Grade Class Trip.

Stop by, have a slice or a "doggie", and learn about all of the great experiments that our students conducted!  Hope to see you there!
